When the Struggle Feels Too Much: Finding God in the Shadows
I’m going to be honest—there have been times when I’ve felt completely disconnected from God. Moments when I struggled to believe His promises were still for me, moments when life’s weight made me question everything. Writing Through the Shadows: A Journey of Faith wasn’t just about sharing my story; it was about working through those moments, those raw, painful times when I doubted if I was still walking in His alignment.
When you’re in the middle of a struggle, it’s so easy to lose sight of His promises. You start asking, Why me? or Where are You, God? I’ve been there. I’ve felt that crushing discouragement that whispers, You’re not enough, or worse, God’s forgotten you. I’ve been angry, frustrated, and even numb.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that faith isn’t about never feeling lost—it’s about trusting God while you feel lost. That doesn’t mean I don’t still struggle. There are days when I feel overwhelmed and completely out of alignment with what I know God has called me to. But even in those moments, He reminds me—sometimes through a verse, a song, or just a quiet nudge—that He hasn’t gone anywhere.
One verse I keep coming back to is Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Those words carry me when I feel like I can’t keep going.
If you’re feeling discouraged right now, I want you to know it’s okay. It’s okay to feel tired. It’s okay to question. It’s okay to not have it all together. But don’t let the shadows keep you from reaching for the light. God’s promises don’t change just because we’re struggling to believe them in the moment.
Here’s what I’ve found helpful when I’m in that place:
Talk to Him, even if it’s messy. Some of my most honest prayers have been me telling God exactly how I feel—hurt, angry, disappointed. He can handle it.
Remind yourself of His faithfulness. Look back at moments in your life when you know He showed up. Those reminders can reignite hope.
Let yourself be human. You don’t have to have perfect faith all the time. God’s love isn’t dependent on your perfection—it’s constant.
If you’re walking through a hard season, know you’re not alone. I’m walking through it too. And even when it feels impossible, I believe God is still working, still guiding, still holding us up.
Let’s walk through the shadows together, trusting that His light is ahead.
With love,
Cassie
